Important Dates and Information
Showing in the Delmar Riney Art Gallery at Pratt Community College from August 17- September 10 is an exhibit by PCC Ballroom Dance instructor, Ande Hall. Part of the exhibit presents general information about the many aspects of this exciting and entertaining art form. Other parts of the exhibit showcase Hall’s original costume designs.
The former Santa Fe veterinarian worked nights as a dance instructor for many years. She began making costumes for herself, but when others began to demand her costumes she found an overseas manufacturer to execute her designs.
“I can’t believe I managed to do all three jobs for three years! I would work on my costume designs between surgeries during the day, and then I went to the studio and taught dance classes until 9:30 at night. I was crazy busy. But it was fun!” says Hall. The PCC exhibit will feature original ballgowns from Hall’s collection, design sketches, photos and videos. “My goal is for people to come in and get a deeper understanding about what goes into a ballroom performance.”
Marsha Shrack, gallery director, says that this is the first exhibit in the gallery to use multimedia art form, from the initial sketches of planning gown designs all the way to showing video of the actual ballroom dances where the gowns are worn.
“This is a very innovative and exciting exhibit” says Shrack.
The exhibit may be seen 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday during regular business hours or by appointment. For more information contact Marsha Shrack at 620-450-2191 or by email at marshas@prattcc.edu.
PTK will be hosting a blood drive in the Dennis Lesh Sports Arena. To sign up for a time or for more information contact Hannah Shaw at 450-2149 or hannahs@prattcc.edu.
