Shayla Jacob to Lead PCC Cheer and Dance Squad
Pratt Community College will look to utilize the experience and success of Shayla Jacob to point their Cheer and Dance Squad in a new direction in 2010. The Lawrence native has had plenty of both, with over fifteen years of cheer, dance and gymnastics coaching, and a 1998 NDA National Championship title while at Barton County Community College.
Jacob, who earned a degree in Sport Science from the University of Kansas, is the co-owner and director of the Lawrence Cheer Academy. For the past eleven years, she has also been coaching the Lawrence High School Cheer Program, one of the top high school cheer programs in the state. Her Academy teams compete in All Star Cheer competitions and have won the National title four times. Jacob is a highly sought after summer camp clinician and choreographs routines for high schools, colleges and all-star teams both locally and nationally.
“I am very excited about the opportunity here at PCC,” said Jacob. “I’m thrilled to move up to the college level, and I think we have the chance to develop a program here that will bring a little more excitement to our games.”
“We feel very fortunate to have someone of Shayla’s caliber taking over our Cheerleading Program,” said PCC Athletic Director Kurt McAfee. “She has been one of the most successful cheer and dance coaches in Kansas, and we expect her talent and experience to bring our program to a new level. President Wojciechowski is committed to restoring our cheer squad to the level expected by all our athletic teams, and we feel confident that Shayla is the person who will create an exciting new dynamic in the Dennis Lesh Arena.”
