Women's Basketball at Hesston
The women’s team traveled to Hesston for their first true road game last night. The Larks were 2-0 and came in averaging 85 points per game. It was their “community night” which meant free admission for anyone in town, it was a good basketball environment. The first half was a little sloppy back and forth as neither team could quite settle in with lots of whistles from the officials. The Beavers managed to take a slim 33-31 lead to the break while despite foul trouble for three of the starters.
In the second half Pratt did a better job of getting ball inside to get easy looks with their height advantage. Unfortunately the Beavers continued to turn the ball over too much though and not convert on some of those easy looks letting Hesston hang around. With the game tied 62 all in the last minute both team multiple chances to pull ahead but couldn’t finish, forcing overtime. In OT the Larks jumped out to a quick three point lead but the Pratt defense locked down from there and held Hesston scoreless the last 2 minutes of the extra session. On the offensive end the Beavers found their way to the free throw line time and again by attacking inside and went 9-11 from the stripe to get a hard fought 71-65 win. Maddie Pendry again led the Beaver attack with 17 points and 9 rebounds, while Tatiana Grant added 15 points and 9 rebounds of her own.
