Freshman Lucas Stivrins earns Bronze medal at FIBA European Championship

Pratt, Kan., -- Lucas Stivrins, incoming freshman from Scottsdale, AZ, spent his summer competing with the Under 18 England National Team in the FIBA European Championships.  Stivrins, the son of former NBA player Alex Stivrins, holds dual citizenship in the US and England.  The 6’11 freshman was the only American selected to play with England’s U18 National Team. 

 
England’s U18 team competed in the B Division of the FIBA European Championships in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Stivrins and England breezed through the first round of pool play with an impressive 5-0 record.  Advancing to the second round, England crushed their first opponent, Estonia, before tasting defeat for the first time at the hands of the Czech Republic. 
 
Despite the loss to the Czechs, England advanced to the championship round to take on the host Bosnia and Herzegovina.  In a hard fought game England came up short losing 63-64 to the eventual gold medalists. 
 
Stivrins and England went on to beat Finland in the third place game, earning a bronze medal and a promotion to the A Division.  Stivrins had a strong showing throughout the games, earning a starting position and averaging 3.8 points and 4.1 rebounds in 12 minutes of play per game.
