Pratt Community College welcomes four new coaches and trainers for Fall of 2012
Pratt, Kan. – Athletic Director Kurt McAfee has announced several new additions to the Pratt Community College Athletic staff for the 2012-13 academic year. Mike Manderino will be the new skipper in the dugout for the Softball team during the 2013 season, Ryan Turner will be coaching Track and Cross Country, Andrew Wolfenberger will become the new Head Athletic Trainer, and Lacey Martinez will be the new Assistant Head Athletic Trainer.
"I am truly excited that we have been able to bring Mike, Ryan, Andrew and Lacey to PCC," said McAfee. "They bring a new dynamic to our program and a great deal of knowledge and experience. They have the intellect, enthusiasm and experience that will only continue to further our student/athletes development."
Manderino most recently spent the past season as the pitching coach at Pfeiffer University in North Carolina. Prior to his tenure with the Falcon’s Manderino was at the Junior College level in California serving as an assistant coach at Porterville College and then College of the Sequoias.
Mike spent a year in Verona Italy as the coordinator and coach for the Verona Baseball Club which encompassed a wide variety of age groups. A native of Topeka, Kan. he has also coached at Cloud County Community College and Fort Scott Community College, as well as a stint with Pittsburg State University as a Graduate Assistant. While Manderino was at Pitt State the team earned its first ever Division II playoff berth. He also spent three summer seasons with the Asheboro Copperheads of the Coastal Plains League, during which the Copperhead pitching staff was consistently in the top three in league ERA and earned playoff berths all three years.
Ryan Turner joined Pratt Community College’s athletics program as the Head Men and Women's Track and Field and Cross Country Coach with his hiring on Aug. 1, 2012. Turner, a native of Holdenville, Okla. joins the program after spending five seasons, working for Olympic Gold Medalist and World Record Holder Leroy Burrell, as the head cross country coach and assistant track and field coach at the University of Houston.
Turner arrived at Houston after spending three years as the Assistant Cross Country and Track and Field Coach at Cowley County Community College (Kan.). There he helped lead the Men's and Women's teams to six top-five national finishes, including four third-place National Trophies. Turner was named NJCAA Region VI Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year in 2006. Following the 2007 indoor track season, Turner was awarded the NJCAA Women's National Assistant Coach of the Year Award.
Andrew Wolfenberger is the new Head Athletic Trainer and Lacey Martinez will be the new Assistant Head Athletic Trainer.
“Both come from Sterling College and have a lot of experience with a several different programs,” said McAfee. “Andrew and Lacey are like a breath of fresh air and armed with lots of new and innovative ways not only to run the training room but to treat and rehabilitate injuries.”
