Cloud tops the Beavers 5-1
The Beavers hit the road Tuesday, Sept. 11, to take on the top ranked team in the nation, Cloud Community College.
After a closely contested first half, Cloud finally got the breakthrough with a goal just 20 seconds before the halftime whistle.
In the second half, playing with the wind at their back, the Beavers had chances to tie the up the match. However, after a couple of defensive blunders, Cloud added two more goals to take a 3-0 lead.
The Beavers fought back and were finally rewarded with a fine volleyed goal from Dominic Swindler. Jono Callaghan was credited with the assist.
Looking to tie, the Beavers pushed forward but were punished as Cloud added two more goals to give the home team a 5-1 victory.
“The Beavers can be proud of their effort in the game, as they pushed the number one team all the way,” said Kevin Kewley, Men’s Head Soccer Coach. “A special mention to Scott Robertson who got out of his sick bed to give another fine goalkeeping performance (is in order).”
This loss drops the Beavers to 3-3 on the season. Next the Beavers resume conference play at home against Cowley on Tuesday, Sept. 18 at the Beaver Dam Pitch.
